From Trial Order To Monthly Repeats – A Turkish Customer’s Story

I. The Market Was Heating Up Back Home, But the Goods He Had Kept Getting Complaints

The Turkish customer, Mehmet (name anonymised), has been in the building materials import business in Istanbul for over a decade. He used to mainly sell traditional PVC panels and gypsum boards, but in recent years, renovation and retrofit projects have been booming in Turkey. Designers and homeowners are increasingly turning to SPC wall panels – waterproof, odour-free, click-and-install – no paint, no glue.

However, the samples he had obtained from local traders had multiple issues: blurry surface patterns, as if the print layer was misaligned; loose locking systems that left visible gaps when two panels were joined; and even worse, one client had installed a sample in a bathroom, and within a month the edges started to curl. He realised he had to go straight to a Chinese source factory – and it had to be one that truly understood production and maintained strict quality control.

II. From Guangdong to Zhejiang, He Visited Four Provinces and Nearly Gave Up

Mehmet arranged a nearly month-long trip to China, visiting Foshan (Guangdong), Linyi (Shandong), Changzhou (Jiangsu), and finally Zhejiang. His routine when visiting a factory was consistent: he didn't head to the showroom first – he asked directly to see the raw material warehouse and the production lines.

In Guangdong, he found that some factories had obvious recycled scrap mixed into their raw material piles, and the workshops were very dusty. When he asked about the calcium carbonate content, the answer was vague – "about 60%" – but no concrete test data was provided.

In Shandong, two factories seemed decent in scale, but their patterns were generic, lacked depth, and the wear layer was only about 0.15 mm thick – he scraped the surface with a coin and left marks.

In Jiangsu, the prices were attractive, but he noticed that edge trims were being directly re-ground and added back into the mix. There was also no online thickness gauge, and thickness variations were visible to the naked eye. He soaked a sample in a glass of water in his hotel room – by the next morning, the edges turned white and fuzzy, indicating water absorption far above the claimed value.

By the time he reached Zhejiang, he had only one week left before his return flight. He had already reconciled himself to the idea: "If I really can't find a good one, I'll just buy some regular PVC panels to tide me over." Then a local friend who runs a hardware export business told him: "Go to Haining Longtime. They've been in the business for over 20 years. They don't boast, but their products are rock-solid."

III. He Arrived at Our Factory in the Final Week – and Suddenly Wasn't in a Hurry to Leave

That morning, he came to our company – Haining Longtime Industry Co., Ltd, at No. 10-1 Lianhong Road, Yuanhua Town, Haining City. Our export department colleague took him around the workshop, and he paid close attention to every detail.

We showed him several things he hadn't seen at the other factories:

  • In the raw material feeding area, there was an independent electronic batching system that automatically meters calcium carbonate powder and virgin PVC resin according to a fixed formula, with batch records for every run.
  • Behind the extrusion line, an online thickness gauge scanned every panel automatically – any piece exceeding the tolerance of ±0.1 mm would trigger an alarm and be rejected.
  • The tongue-and-groove milling line used German-made cutting tools. We cut a fresh piece on-site for him – the groove was smooth and burr-free, and the pull-force test results consistently stayed above the required standard.
  • Next to the finished goods warehouse, we have a dedicated sample retention room where we keep at least 5 samples from every export batch, labelled with batch numbers and traceable for three years.

His expression visibly relaxed when he saw these details. He said: "I didn't see any of this at the previous factories."

When we moved to the showroom, we pulled out our internal quality control logs, and he went through item by item. We printed out a comparison reference table that we use for internal training – summarising "common market shortcomings" against our own control standards:

Parameter

Common Market Practice (what he saw earlier)

Haining Longtime SPC Wall Panels (actual control values)

Raw material

Opaque recycled content ratio, calcium carbonate often below 50%

Virgin PVC + selected CaCO₃ powder, content ≥65%, batch-by-batch testing

Panel density

Mostly 1.7–1.8 g/cm³, edges tend to be brittle

≥2.0 g/cm³, actual average 2.05–2.10 g/cm³

24h water absorption

Some claim <0.5%, but edges turn white after soaking, no real data

<0.08% (ASTM D570), independently re-tested annually

Wear layer

Simple UV coating, no clear abrasion rating

0.3 mm pure PVC wear layer (upgradable to 0.8 mm), T-grade ≥6000 cycles

Locking tensile strength

No published data; joints visibly loosen by hand

Every batch tensile-tested, ≥800 N/m

Formaldehyde emission

Claim E0, but noticeable odour on site

ENF grade / zero-formaldehyde – no glue used in entire process, test results show "not detected"

Dimensional stability (EN 434 shrinkage)

No testing or only theoretical values

X-direction: –0.04%, Y-direction: –0.02% – no deformation under high heat/humidity

Pattern development

Fixed generic designs, long colour-matching lead time

In-house colour-matching and sampling team – custom samples in 7–10 days, with synchronised embossing available

Warranty commitment

Verbal promises, no written documentation

Written warranty provided; batch samples retained for full traceability

He studied the table carefully, especially the "<0.08% water absorption" and "locking tensile data", and took photos. Then he ran two quick tests himself: first, he scratched the surface hard with a key – no visible mark; second, he poured water onto the cut edge – after ten minutes, the water still beaded up and didn't seep in. He immediately asked: "Can I take this table with me? I want to show it to my customers back home."

IV. He Placed an Order for a Full Container on the Spot – and Has Added Monthly Shipments Ever Since

That afternoon, he didn't delay any further. He signed an order for one full container (approx. 20 tonnes) of SPC wall panels, 4.5 mm thick, size 600×2440 mm, in four designs: two oak synchronised-grains, one walnut grain, and one white marble. When we asked if he wanted to compare prices with other suppliers, he replied: "I've seen your workshop and your test data. You're not the cheapest, but you put everything on the table. I've been doing business in China for over ten years – I know this type of factory gives me the least trouble."

After the container arrived, the installation feedback was excellent – tight locking, clean cut edges, almost no plastic smell on-site, and even the installation crew appreciated working with them. Within the next two months, he placed three more orders, expanding the product range to SPC flooring (4.0 mm and 6.0 mm with IXPE acoustic underlay) and WPC wall panels (for semi-outdoor applications). Now he places a combined order roughly every 40–50 days, with increasing total value.

V. We Don't Rely on Fancy Marketing – We Just Do Quality Control and Traceability Properly

To be honest, this customer is a classic professional buyer – he doesn't fall for sales talk, but trusts data and on-site evidence. We retained him not through low prices or flexible payment terms, but through a few "solid practices":

  1. We keep samples from every batch of raw material, so if any issue arises with a shipment, we can trace it back to the production date and formula lot.
  2. 100% colour-check before shipment – we lay out panels from the same order under standard lighting to ensure colour consistency.
  3. We have performed specialised shipping tests for packaging – using edge protectors and reinforced stretch film to withstand long-haul sea freight, keeping the damage rate at destination below 0.5%.
  4. Prompt after-sales response – when a previous shipment had a few pieces slightly chipped due to rough unloading by a local truck, we immediately arranged replacement pieces with the next container, no questions asked.

Mehmet later said during a video meeting – and we think it's a very honest statement: "When I look for a factory, I'm not looking for the cheapest one – I'm looking for the one that gives me the least worry. You are exactly that kind – once I pay, I don't have to chase you for updates every day, and when the goods arrive, I don't have to dread my customers' complaints."

That's the feedback we value most. Now on our website, we regularly post real stories of customer visits – no exaggeration, no empty phrases – just a truthful record of what happened and what came out of it. This Turkish customer, having travelled across four provinces and coming to us only in his final week, is itself the best testament to our professionalism.
